Kinesonic Rhythms for Parkinson’s

Kinesonic Rhythms for Parkinson’s

In April 2024 Harmony in Motion (AKA- Louise McDowall and Rosemary Spencer) were successful in securing ‘Develop Your Creative Practice’ funding from Arts Council England.

This funding allowed Louise and Rosemary time to develop as Kinesonic artists, enhancing there familiarity and artistry with ‘echome’ a wearable technology for sound and movement interaction. With a specific focus of developing a practice which could be delivered in Dance for Parkinson’s setting.

Between April and October 2024 Louise and Rosemary spent time in the studio together, developing a partnership, growing as Kinesonic artist and creating a new pedagogy using ‘echome‘ in community settings specifically with Parkinson’s.

They also, read lots of books and articles, shadowed experienced Dance for Parkinson’s practitioners (Dr. Melanie Brierley and Daphne Cushnie), were mentored by Kinesonic expert and project lead for ‘echome’ Maria Kapsali, and ran trial sessions for participants living with Parkinson’s to test out ideas and gain feedback.

By the end of the project they succeeded in testing their hypothesis, that using ‘echome‘ with a somatic dance lens could work as positive addition to a dance for Parkinson’s space.

It was clear from the trials run that it provides a wonderfully creative and unique catalyst for movement.
