
What is meditation?
Meditation is a collection of practices of the mind which vary in approach, with the common thread that they take the mind from a state of doing into being present.
Are your meditation classes religious?
No.
Some meditation styles have their origins in a religious practice. Some religious people do meditate as part of their faith, but you do not need to be religious to meditate. Meditation does not have to be practised in this way. There are many secular (none religious) meditation practices.
What are the benefits?
There are many scientifically proven benefits of meditation. Including but not exclusively… better sleep, stress reduction, pain management, improved regulation of emotions, lower blood pressure. Alongside the physical and psychological benefits of meditation people also often report emotional and spiritual improvements.
How often should I meditate?
Benefits increase with regularity. However, it is what is right for you. A one off practice will help your mental state but a daily or regular practice is recommended to gain ongoing benefits.
Do I have to sit on the floor?
No. you can sit in anyway which is comfortable to you. In a chair with feet flat on the floor is fine.
How long does it take?
The length of time you practice for can vary. Just 5 mins can be beneficial. If you come to a class, you will start with meditations between 5-10mins long.
